Subject: newbie, what about alpaka packrafts ?

Hey, I'm a newbie, I am currently on a contract up in Binghamton NY. Been doing a fair bit of camping up in the Adirondacks and am looking for something to do some paddling, little light whitewater and fishing in. I really want something portable as I don't have any storage here and I live in a hotel. So I noticed this recommended on the backpacker site. http://www.alpackaraft.com/Site/Items.cfm?ItemID=3&ItemCategoryID=1 what do ya think guys ? It's light enough to pack in a backpack, seems like it can handle some light rapids ? I can take trips on the Susquehanna in it ? and also a little fishing on the lakes maybe ? Opinions please. Thanks

I read an article about thses things. Folks in Alaska were packing them way into the outback and paddling out on some significant rivers. Looked like a lot of fun. Yeah me too, just trying to decide whether to take the plunge on one of the alpacka inflatables or try out the whole experience with something cheaper like the seylor inflatables. Cons are that it will be taken by the wind any time there is any wind. You can fight against the wind in a small raft, but it's a lot of hard work. -- r.bc: vixen Speaker to squirrels, willow watcher, etc.. Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless.
