I use to have a Daggon Blackwater 12 ft kayak with rudder. I enjoyed it and at that time I had help carrying it. I paddle in smooth water, harbors, sloughs, lakes, etc. I realize now that I can unload at boat docks, get a dolly for distance transport and am completely willing to do this by myself. I question on loading it onto a roof rack and any hints would help me with this. Question: Because I'm not familiar with other brands, is there a sit in kayak with rear compartment and rudder, that is a bit lighter, yet streamlined for easy paddling. I'd appreciate all recommendations, comparisons and pointers. You can post me off list and thanks in advance. Nicki

Perception Cadence in Airalite would be a perfect boat for you. Fast, fun, 42#, shiny, durable. http://www.perceptionkayaks.com/cadence Steve

If you don't, check out inflatables. A web search for > inflatable kayaks < will give you all sorts of options. I have your problem in not being able to cartop my old sea kayak. I settled for a 19 lb inflatable. Not as fast to paddle, but still fun and quite safe in quiet water.
