Got a triathlon john.

Feather light and nice and stretchy.... but at the cost of
durability.

Got one seam rip and a few rub spots.

Went from surf shop-to-surf-shop over the weekend getting blank
stares.

Went to a local dive shop and the guy didn't know anything.

Googled a few phrases... but all I come up with neoprene cement,
AquaSeal, and some stuff called "Iron Mend".

Tried the Iron Mend, and it works....sort of.

But it's basically an iron-on lycra patch....and it seems dicey
balancing the heat needed to melt the backing against the heat
that will damage the rubber. I've gone as far as I'm gonna go
heat/pressure wise and it looks like it might hold for
awhile...but then again, it might not.

I've got plenty of neoprene cement. All I *really* want is some
lycra seam tape that the seam rip and a square foot or so of
something reasonably tough-but-flexy that can be used for knee
pads and other rub/wear points without creating too much of a
stress zone at the edge of the patch.

Anybody have a source for this stuff?

Check a few of these places. Some have light neoprene.

Google "neoprene sheet" for sources that sell primarily neoprene. You
probably want something like 1 or 2 mm neoprene.

You could also consider Polartec Aquashell - lycra covered fleece
specifically made for underwater and wetwear. Aquashell is either
lycra-nylon covered or rubbery coated (aka fuzzy rubber).

Is that the same stuff that is sold as "Mysterioso"?

From what I see on their web site - no. They use Polartec Powerstretch
for insulating under-layers, though. Powerstretch is a single-sided
stretchy fleece. Aquashell is like Powerstretch only with a nylon-lycra
or a rubbery fabric bonded to the smooth side.

Aquashell is used in scuba dive suits. Heavier than a skin suit and
lighter than a neoprene wetsuit. The Jerry Garcia line of dive wear
used Aquashell.
