Hi all,

We're planning a trip to Moosonee. We'll put the canoe into the water
at moose river from where on water should be real slow, provided we
'stay on the right'.

The train leaves at Cochrane. We expect 6-8 days with the boat
including being in Moosonee.

Where can I find the best prices for renting out canoes and the
assorted equipment (pfd, paddles)?

Algonquin outfitters have the best price, but theyre more than 5 hours
away so I'll pay a day extra. The train leaves at 11am, so if we can
pick up the canoes the same day, it'll be swell.

Cant find other major outfitters in the area; "Missinaibi Headwaters
Outfitters" offer canoes at $240 a week, up from $180 from Algonquin.

Is there a central listing I dont know about?

At $235 + tax for the week, they are by far the most expensive canoe
outfitters. Maybe theyre motorized, or come with sails.

I'll spend a day calling around Timmins to see if better deals are
available.

MEC is a great place. Their Toronto store has great service, and we've
rented boats from Toronto and Halifax. They are across Canada in very
convenient locations.

Cheers

Trade off the convenience of getting the canoe near the destination
versus the problem of dragging canoes all over hell's half acre.
Driving all the way with a canoe on top and paying an extra day or
two's rental might negate the cost difference. You can expect
to use about 10%-30% more in gas with a canoe on the roof, depending
on the vehicle.

If you are looking in Toronto, contact MEC, Evergreen, others - look
in the yellow pages.
