Opening day here in PA and I was excited to be out on the West Branch
of the Susquehanna in my Pungo to do some fishing but the 38 F temp
just isn't going to cut it. Now we're looking at up to 36" ( by some
reports) of snow beginning tonight and extending into tomorrow and
Monday. On top of that my grass is almost long enough to get it's
first mowing. I may be shoveling snow Monday and cutting the grass on
Tuesday.

It means that deciphering all the different fishing regulations in PA
is a lot like figuring out your income taxes. ;)

In a nutshell it means fishing all year round with artificial bait.

Along with the regular trout season, we also have the following:

Approved Trout Waters Open Year-Round
Catch and Release
Catch and Release All Tackle
Catch and Release Fly-Fishing Only
Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only
Early Season Trout-Stocked Waters
Trophy Trout
Trophy Trout All Tackle
Wild Brook Trout Enhancement

I'm down in Clearfield. The section from the bridge in Hyde to where
the river meets Moose Creek is now an approved trout water and is
stocked by the Fish Commission.
It's nice to have this running right through the middle of town. The
river also supports a healthy smallmouth bass population.

Sandy Lick creek in nearby DuBois was orange colored when I was
growing up and just this year 1.3 miles have been stocked and
designated "Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only" so progress is
definately being made.

Look at the bright side. I used to visit my father's family in Cambria
county PA, and the West Branch as it flowed through Barnesboro was a hideous
shade of yellow from sulfur from the coal mines. Glad to hear that the
waters have improved to the point that it can support trout, or are you
upstream from that point?
