Hi All

Does anyone know what type of resin/hardener is in the Old Town Discovery
Kit.

I have most of the stuff already, including the fibreglass sheet so I only
need the resin which I am hoping to buy separately.

I'm guessing that its either epoxy or polyester. Any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Did you ever figure this out? I just found myself in the same spot,
and would hate to have to spend $60 for $5-10 worth of resin.

TIA

I don't know what's in the kits, but I've always been led to believe that
epoxy should be used for all repair work - polyester resins aren't
adhesives, and don't bond as securely. Noticed you mentioned having
fiberglass sheet - if that's mat, you'll have problems with epoxy, as the
powdered binder used to hold the fibers together doesn't wet out well at
all, leaving air bubble voids for moisture to penetrate - much better to use
fiberglass cloth.
Hope this helps - just remember it's free advice, and probably worth exactly
what you've paid for it :- >))

I would email Old Town & ask if portions of the kit can be purchased
separately; failing that they ought to tell you what resin to use and
most hardware stores should have it.
