Oh yeah, EMS also has them on sale right now for $72. They only carry navy blue, but it's a good color, and they have all sizes in stock on the website. <me6@privacy.net > wrote in message news:5mrtd0lh7e5mm0vgtopgcb6i7l6p962hqa@4ax.com... > What do you all wear for TRUE amphibious shoes? > > Something you can step into water while they are > on....and right back onto land? > > Are the Keen Newport H2 shoes a good amphibious shoe? > > see link > > http://tinyurl.com/3y3np

Well I just made a mistake I think I ran down to REI store and bought the Keen Newport......NOT the Newport H2 The ones I bought are made of Nubuck leather.....and the H2s are made of nylon webbing. Ive now learned after researching a bit that Keen also make the Hood River shoe. I think this shoe is REALLY what I want and need I need something truly amphibious...... and I think the leather model I now have is not quite that Soo.....any advice on the Hood River model vs the H2 model with nylon webbing? I will take back my leather models..... but again....any advice on the Hood River design vs the H2 design?

The Hood River is a good shoe, really pretty similar to the H2. I think the H2 looks a lot less dorky when you're wearing it around.. the H2 looks good enough to wear around as a casual shoe. The Hood River looks like a water shoe. Both are really going to perform the same when you get them soaked. My money is definitely on the H2. FWIW, the regular Newport is really just as amphibious as the H2. Keen's leather has a good treatment that makes it highly water resistant.. they'll require a little more care, but the bonus is that they're quite classy looking and will probably last longer. <me6@privacy.net > wrote in message news:i6oud053e24qbtunpud3isjof7jo6jcbjf@4ax.com... > >Oh yeah, EMS also has them on sale right now for $72. I agree in that it "looks" like the Hood River is dorkier looking. Hard to really tell just from looking at pics on the Net. And I live in a small town with no where to see them in the flesh Closest place is St Louis and that's a two hr drive for me. >FWIW, the regular Newport is really just as amphibious as the H2. The Keen web site says that the reg Newport more likely to absorb "some" water..... whereas the H2 shouldn't absorb any. Apparently the Nubuck leather will get some water absorption..... and also something abt its sole that will absorb some water Whereas they say the H2 has neither "problem" So would you still get the H2..... over say the reg Newport and the Hood River as well?

Well they have to sell the H2 on some points ;) The leather definitely will pick up some water and take longer to dry. They have the same footbed and sole construction, but the H2 just has a different pattern on the bottom. If I were you, honestly, I'd return the Newports you bought and buy the H2 online at EMS for $64

The Newport H2 is a *great* amphibious shoe. I honestly think it's the best water/hiking shoe out there. Totally outclasses anything by Teva or Chaco. The lining is neoprene, they fit well, the sole is comfortable. A few of the people I work with (at EMS (www.ems.com)) wear them to work every day. Kenn really came out with a great product that is perfect for the market they target. I don't really have anything bad to say about them, other than they're expensive ;) Jon <me6@privacy.net > wrote in message news:5mrtd0lh7e5mm0vgtopgcb6i7l6p962hqa@4ax.com... > What do you all wear for TRUE amphibious shoes? > > Something you can step into water while they are > on....and right back onto land? > > Are the Keen Newport H2 shoes a good amphibious shoe? > > see link > > http://tinyurl.com/3y3np
