Any context is helpful. Bin on over 1,000 whitewater trips and never encountered a "factory" rapid, though I've run rapids named Iron Ring, Mill Rapid, Savage Mill, and Ouella Mill, and there is one in Maine named Cribworks. IOW, best I can guess is that "factory" is part of the name given to a rapid, but, with no context, how can anyone guess? -Richard, His Kanubic Travesty -- ====================================================================== Richard Hopley Winston-Salem, NC, USA . rhopley[at]earthlink[dot]net . Richard, I beleive you have run one. The first rapid on the Deerfield (Mass.) Dryway is factory rapid. -Jim Oci-One Kanubi wrote: > Any context is helpful. > > Bin on over 1,000 whitewater trips and never encountered a "factory" > rapid, though I've run rapids named Iron Ring, Mill Rapid, Savage Mill, > and Ouella Mill, and there is one in Maine named Cribworks. > > IOW, best I can guess is that "factory" is part of the name given to a > rapid, but, with no context, how can anyone guess? > > > -Richard, His Kanubic Travesty > -- > ====================================================================== > Richard Hopley Winston-Salem, NC, USA > . rhopley[at]earthlink[dot]net > . There is a place called Factory Shoals on the Alcovy River east of Atlanta. Great big Class III playground in the middle of a Class I-II stream. Did I say middle? Maybe used to be, now it's just above where the Alcovy becomes Jackson Lake. Also Factory Rapid on the Deerfield; runs next to a...aww, you guessed. Also on the Kokosing in Ohio. But to be honest, I think the OP was asking about a category of rapids, not a particular one, and I've never hear of a "factory rapid." Hi OC1, I've run "Factory Rapids". This one is in Ohio. Kokosing River. Class II just downstream of Gambier, OH. Well, I'm more of a recreational kayaker, not a whitewater kayaker, but if I'm not mistaken, factory rapids are those that are controllable. Horrible definition, I know, but that's the best I can do. The first thing that comes to mind is the kayaking event in the Olympics last year. Those "rapids" were man-made, so to speak, not from rocks in a river. Someone out there who does whitewater......help!!! I think I nailed it, but not quite sure. :-) ~Kathy felderbush001@yahoo.com wrote: > Hello All, > > Excuse my ignorance.
