Subject: Chatahoochie in July?

We are planning a SE trip for the first week of July. (We figure no one else will be padding that week, the rivers will be almost empty, right?) Anyway.... I've never done the Hooch, does it often run in the summer? We are looking to do Section three of the Chattooga, as long as we are down that way, we could spend an extra day on the Chattahoocie, is my thought. Is this realistic? Any otherClass 2 or 2-3 runs in that area I am overlooking? I'll check the AW pages, but it is nice to get first hand info. Thanks! -Dan V.

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with your post, but the subject line has been singing in my head all day. It's grown into a stanza... Mistassini, January Chattahoochie in July Did an ender in November But I can't remember why. --riverman

Lowest decent level is around 1' on the Cornelia gauge, although it can be run a bit lower than that. (http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ga/nwis/uv/?site_no=02331600&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060) It's .8 there right now. Might be runnable when you're down, might not. Depends on whether the drought conditions they've forecast will come true. Steve -- Steve Cramer Athens, GA
