There was a post here a while ago in the thread "canoe in two halves"
that mentioned canoes made from those blue plastic barrels, anyone
have a link to them? I keep coming up empty handed with Google. Thanks.

An old fibreglass or aluminum canoe would do. Turn it over to keep
water from filling it up and deforming the hull. Try for metal
gunwales so they won't rot away. Pull it up on a log or something to
keep it off the ground. A heavy chain and lock should keep it from
being stolen but not from having holes shot in it by hunters if they
are active in the area. For that you need to take out any floatation
and skink the canoe in about 6 feet of water when it's not being used.
It's a popular way of storing canoes over the winter in isolated lakes
here in Canada. Admittedly the water here is pretty clean. Don't pull
it out full of water because that might break it's back. Tip the water
out of it before pulling it ashore. Good luck.

Points for CHEAP. That was the design goal. :)

Thanks to Wm, Wilko and Steve.

I'm looking for something that can sit at the local lake 24/7 to be
there when I get the whim to do a little fishing.

Heavy and slow but unsinkable and indestructable..
A better shape to the ends would be an improvement.
Look at the shape of the end in the last photo (on top of the car).

It takes a little willing suspension of disbelief to refer to that as a
canoe. Boat, OK. Raft, maybe. Barge, yeah. Canoe, I dunno.

Points for creativity, though.
